  • School Wellness | MCSSSDNJ

School Wellness Program MCSSSD recognizes that healthy students are often better learners; therefore, we support school health and wellness policies and practices that address the physical, social, and emotional needs of our students. Our goal is to promote the health and well-being of the whole child. Recognizing that education cannot achieve this alone, the district supports a coordinated school health program (CSH) model consisting of the following eight interactive components: health education; physical education & physical activity; nutrition environment & services; health services; counseling, psychological & social services; physical environment; employee wellness, and family engagement. This approach or process facilitates a blending of resources and personnel in the school and the local community. Our District Wellness Committee meets annually to review school health and safety policies and procedures in order to continually reflect on current and best practices in the field of health and physical education. School Wellness Week is celebrated annually in each of our schools during National Nutrition Month in March. In addition, each school is required to complete an annual self-assessment that is presented to the public at the May Board of Education Meeting. District-Wide Programs The following district-wide programs are utilized to teach students about the importance of making informed food choices, developing sound eating and physical activity habits, and character education in order to enable them to responsibly and responsively make informed decisions that influence lifelong healthy behaviors within the context of self, family, school and the local and global communities: Comprehensive Health and Physical Education Social Studies School Counseling Program School Health Services Program Individual School Programs In addition to district-wide programs, building-based initiatives are also utilized to promote the health and well-being of the whole child where positive character development and making good choices are recognized and reinforced.
